Project Description
Comprehensive conservation of Bab Zuwayla, one of only three surviving Fatimid gates of medieval Cairo (1092 AD). Funded through a USAID–Egypt Antiquities Programme, the project addressed structural consolidation, stone conservation, and public access restoration.
Key Achievements
- Full documentation and condition survey of the Fatimid gate complex
- Stone-by-stone conservation of the twin minarets of Sultan al-Mu'ayyad Mosque
- Public access restored to the gate roof and towers
